As you noticed in one of the recent Maintainer Minute issues, QRM is made up of four core concepts:
The Power of Time: Managing lead time is very critical to the health of companies.
Organizational Structure: The business should be organized in a way to reduce lead time.
System Dynamics: How interactions in the company impact lead time.
Enterprise-wide Application: QRM is not just for the shop floor, it is for the entire organization.
In the all-staff meeting, I mentioned the first bullet item mentioned above. For this article, I will highlight the second one on the list.
One of the main aspects of Organizational Structure is the use of QRM Cells. These groups of workers are comprised of team members from multiple functional areas / operations. The Cell can be made up of people from the office area, production area, or include members from both. They have a specific, common product area to manage and are given a certain amount of flexibility in managing their MCT (“lead-time”).
You will be hearing more about QRM Cells in the months ahead, as we launch them for certain areas of our business. Change is exciting!
“Christmas is the season of joy, of holiday greetings exchanged, of gift-giving, and of families united.” – Norman Vincent Peale
It is a very magical time of the year. It is a time to help us focus on what is truly important, not the gifts that are received but the kindness provided to others. As you spend time with your friends and family, we wish you genuine happiness and safe travels.
I will also leave you with this one additional quote from Timothy Keller: “Christmas is telling you that you could never get to heaven on your own.
God had to come to you.”
Merry Christmas… and Happy New Year!
