English as Second Language Class

by Milt McPike -
Maintainer’s ESL class, led by instructor Mireya Rodriguez, meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during lunch breaks to build foundational English skills. But these sessions go beyond just learning a new language—the participants are gaining the tools to navigate everyday life within the community using their English skills.
Recently, the class visited the Sheldon Public Library, where members received library cards and practiced checking out books in English. They also took a field trip to the local HyVee grocery store, where staff kindly welcomed their questions about shopping in English, providing a hands-on way to reinforce what they’re learning.
The dedicated participants, Erick Solis, Maria Arias, Monserrat Chavez, Alanice Martinez, and Bernie Cuadra, are making impressive strides toward building practical language skills. Let’s all congratulate their hard work and commitment to learning English!
